I was responsible for creating promotional materials for social media and assisting with the preparation and implementation of yearly events and projects. I also have gained experience working at the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA teaching group fitness classes, assisting in various fitness classes, and working in the fitness center.
My greatest accomplishment was learning to 'come out of my box' in multiple scenarios. Teaching a group fitness class was a scary thought, but it turned into a great learning lesson and helped me improve my communication and leadership skills. At the start of my internship, I was anxious to work with multiple groups of people, but I have a lot more confidence and voice now to take into the future.
One of the lessons I learned is that communication is key no matter the position you are in. Communication is vital when working with clients, coworkers, or creating relationships with other businesses. It is important to be on the same page, or understand each other when working on projects, campaigns, or toward the same goals.
What advice would you give?
My advice for future students is that it's okay to be anxious when starting something new and it can be intimidating. But, keeping an open mind towards these opportunities is a great way to experience new connections and relationships, and possibly learn a new passion or skill.
