Responsibilities
Observe, assist, and lead training sessions under the leadership of multiple performance coaches. Work with athletes ranging from youth to elite, and general population adults. Assist in programming and overall session flow. Work in groups and 1 on 1 with athletes. Understand and assist in proper nutritional fueling both before and after training sessions. Attend continuing education around EXOS training methodology and take XPS certification at the end of the internship.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment was getting more confident as a coach, and specifically a female coach in a male dominant field.
Learning experience
The greatest lessons were my now effective programming skills, and methodological coaching and how that varies from athlete to athlete.
What advice would you give?
My advice would be to gain as much experience in the field as possible. The classroom can only take you so far, but its the the weight room working with athletes and clients were the bulk of learning comes from.
