In my office hours I find different activities for clients and children. I also work with the housing team to try and make improvements, document our hours spent with clients and find resources for our clients. I also work at the domestic violence shelter answering calls, playing with the clients children and being an advocate for our clients in the shelter.
The greatest accomplishment that I have had is experiencing a client and her 3 kids come into shelter and exit on positive terms. We worked to find her an apartment and a job for a few months and although it was a long process we did get her a job and an apartment for her family. She has now exited our program and is doing very well!
What advice would you give?
My advice for future students is to choose an internship that will push you, educate you and be something that you enjoy doing. Step out of your comfort zone and try something new and interesting.
