Accomplishments

Just a month into my internship, I had the opportunity of working under someone I consider such a positive influence and great teacher. She really helped my focus and growth so that I was able to become a site supervisor within my first couple of months. Now I supervise staff in my cottage, and have many more responsibility I would have thought my first few months on this job/internship.

What advice would you give?

I learned that when working with kids, especially those with mental or behavioral issues, being open and honest is the best way to go. I work with kids ages 8-17 and one the best comments I have gotten thus far from them is that they trust me because they know I won't lie to them, even if its hard. I also suggest to dive in to the job and learn as much as you from as many people as you can, because it can go so far and you really do apply it, even if you don't agree with it.
