Responsibilities
As a lab technician at the Digital Apparel Textile Studio, I complete production orders for students and faculty using digital printing, laser cutting, embroidery, and poster printing machines. I also help maintain and troubleshoot the equipment. In addition to daily tasks, I work on ongoing projects and am currently helping create a detailed lab manual to guide students on using the sewing machines, as well as digitizing patterns and photographing each one.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishments is learning how to use new machines and developing technical skills that helped me gain confidence working independently in the lab.
Learning experience
The greatest lessons I have learned was the importance of troubleshooting and thinking on my feet. I also learned how important clear communication and collaboration are when working with both students and faculty.
What advice would you give?
Don’t be afraid to try new things, even if you’re unsure at first. Hands-on experience is the best way to learn. Stay curious and ask questions. Everyone has to start somewhere, and it’s okay not to know everything right away.
