Responsibilities

My responsibilities during my internship consisted of supporting programming within an ABA clinic. I assisted with group-based activities, observed and supported behavior intervention strategies, and helped with preparation and organization for future sessions. I also had the opportunity to co-lead social skills classes and work closely with a licensed clinical social worker, which allowed me to gain insight into therapeutic approaches, professional communication, and client support within a clinical setting.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment during my internship was growing more confident in my ability to contribute in a clinical environment. Over time, I became more comfortable co-leading social skills classes, engaging with the students, and supporting therapeutic goals. I was also proud of the positive feedback I received from my supervisor, who acknowledged my growth, effort, and potential within the role.

Learning experience

The greatest lessons I learned were the importance of mentorship, clear communication, and self-confidence in professional settings. I learned how valuable it is to work alongside supportive supervisors and how much environment and leadership impact learning and performance. This experience also taught me to better recognize my strengths and understand the type of setting in which I can thrive.

What advice would you give?

My advice to future students in my major is to not be afraid to ask questions, seek feedback, and advocate for the support you need while at your internship! It’s also important to reflect on whether an environment aligns with your learning style and values. This experience is especially important and can help you determine your future path.
