I have been assisting the Food and Beverage Manager with staff management, inventory control, and ordering. As an interns I also work with our event coordinator to book, plan, and prepare for different types of events. Other responsibilities have included basic accounting, bartending, and event setup and tear down.
My greatest accomplishment so far has been when I assisted in finalizing a wedding and getting to see a bride and groom so happy on their wedding day. I got to get the room put together. See that all the prep for the food was getting done and how to efficiently place it out on the buffet line.
What advice would you give?
Be open to all sorta of experience. You may be bartending one day and making 10 meat and cheese trays the next. At the end of the day, all the work you will be doing will benefit you and improve skills you will need for the industry. Those skills may be things such as time management, organizational, scheduling, or just improving your all around people skills.
