Responsibilities
We are sales interns, therefore we open/close the store and try to sell merchandise throughout the day. Opening duties include but are not limited to: sweeping and wiping down all shoe displays. Putting new inventory out on the sales floor. Creating a daily sheet giving tasks to employees to keep them busy during down time. Looking at our numbers and seeing what our day is in sales so, the team can be aware of what our goal is for the day. Lastly, opening registers. Closing duties include but are not limited to: organizing and straightening all shoe displays, putting away any shoes left unattended, and closing registers.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment was gaining personal customers. These are people whom you become a personal stylist for, which is cool because that means they trust you and now remain loyal of your service.
Learning experience
The most important lesson I learned is that sometimes not everything is going to workout perfectly and that is okay. I had this image in my head of what this internship would be and straight up it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. However, any opportunity given to you is a valuable opportunity and meanwhile, I made some really good connections with people that will help me in my near future.
What advice would you give?
To start looking and applying for internships early. It doesn't matter how smart you are or what you have to show off for yourself. You are now completing against the world and it becomes a lot more competitive. I started in the fall of 2021 looking and applying for internships. By the summer of 2022 I was only accepted into 2 out of the 85 I applied for. The earlier you start the better.
