Responsibilities

Student teacher should expect to be responsible for the following: lesson planning, organization skills, communication skills, teaching students grades K-6, using cross-curriculum instruction, oversee recess and after school duties, teach adaptive PE, display flexibility to teach students with a wide range of skills and socioeconomic levels.

Accomplishments

Understanding the variances in students' skill levels and attention spans through elementary. Learning what each grade level is capable of accomplishing. Understanding how to best challenge each skill level while maintaining a positive learning environment.

What advice would you give?

Go into your student teaching experience with an open mind. If you're lucky enough to select your teacher, choose someone who will challenge you and someone who you feel comfortable around. Work extremely hard, as your supervisors and cooperating teachers can serve as strong references for you moving forward in your career.
