Responsibilities

In my role as TCI's Special Events Intern I work along-side the Wedding Director when meeting with potential event holders - giving site visits, answering questions vendors or clients may have via email or phone. During the planning stages, I sit in and execute meetings with both event holders and vendors. In addition, I assist with day of responsibilities for Weddings, Golf Outings, meetings and other events. On event day, I oversee the banquet staff to ensure seamless execution of the entire event - this includes communication between back-of-house and front-of-house. Upon the completion of the event, I head the banquet team in the clean-up and storage of banquet materials. Lastly, I also work in TCI's Copper Oak Restaurant – these shifts include simple bar-tending and waiting on tables.

Accomplishments

I have learned so much being in this role as the Events Intern; it has been such an awesome experience. One of my greatest accomplishments was fulfilling all the set-up, execution, and closure of wedding receptions. On wedding day, it is high stress and many aspects must fall into place exactly for it to flow well. The days are sometimes long but it is so rewarding to see the happy couple celebrating and enjoying their special day, knowing I helped it happen.

What advice would you give?

Be proactive. Go to that info session; introduce yourself to that guest speaker; volunteer at that event; apply for that internship. Opportunities to grow, gain knowledge, network, get involved, and gain experience are endless. It's up to you to take initiative. Very rarely will those opportunities "fall" into your lap, however, if you take a step towards them you will find success! Because even a closed door is a lesson learned. Stay positive and stay driven.
