Responsibilities

-Leading weight room workouts as well as speed and agility work -Set up weight room as well as outdoor stations each day -Recorded athlete progress in speed as well as weightlifting metrics for specific lifts to show progress throughout the summer -Worked with specific students to make form adjustments for lifts as well as general feedback -Worked with coaches on how to improve my skillset and what to work towards in my career

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment was being able to take full leadership of the program and being able to command a room full of 30+ students. I had been working the whole summer with the coaches on ways to improve my "coaching voice" as well as my authority when it comes to working with teenagers.

Learning experience

The greatest lesson I learned was "passable not impeccable." This being that so many of us want to fixate on making lifts look perfect in order to get the best gains and the best performance. The reality is that many kids are doing this for fun or physically would never be on the level required to get pass college sports. Constantly trying to perfect everything for a student can become negative when too much feedback is given. Hence "passable not impeccable" - make sure they do it safe and that they want to do it.

What advice would you give?

Do things that you know you aren't comfortable with yet. If you aren't comfortable with leading a group of kids, do it. If you aren't comfortable yet with demonstrating lifts, do it. If you aren't comfortable being in charge of a program, do it. You will not get comfortable doing anything unless you get the reps in.
