Responsibilities

Helped with the data collection of ongoing research projects. This includes placing markers/sensors, running the motion analysis system, and monitoring research participants. Assisted with data analysis, including things like exporting data, digitizing video data, and compiling survey results. Attended weekly lab meetings to review background literature, pilot test new studies, demonstrate lab equipment, and provide feedback on project ideas.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment was being able to build my communication and leadership skills by leading the participants through data collections.

Learning experience

Being able to gain hands-on experience in the lab is just as important as any other class. The ability to be in the lab and expand upon my knowledge and skills with the equipment and technology that is used is highly underrated.

What advice would you give?

Be creative when following your interests. It may not seem like your professional passions are represented from past students or in classes, but that just gives you the opportunity to set the standard. This type of research internship was not advertised or promoted in any form, but I decided to take the initiative and step out of my comfort zone to try and get it set up, because I knew it would be incredibly valuable for my future.
