Responsibilities

The Prevention intern will promote, implement, and maintain evidence-based and/or best practice prevention programming for both youth and adults in Story County. Evaluation tools will be used to reveal the effectiveness of these specified programs and the Intern/volunteer will assist with record keeping as per the requirements of the various grants. The Prevention Services Intern/Volunteer will serve as a role model for the youth, work to establish youth led initiatives in Story County schools, and assist established youth development groups in Story County.

Accomplishments

I helped plan, and volunteered at, Reggie's Sleepout. It was amazing to see that many people come together to raise awareness for homelessness despite the poor weather. I enjoyed working with the Reggie's Sleepout Committee beforehand to help plan the event, and it was cool to see some of my ideas being used at the actual event.

What advice would you give?

I would advise students to take an internship in something they are actually interested in. 320 hours is a lot of time to devote to something. If it is something you don't enjoy doing, you are going to be miserable.
