Responsibilities

Since the first week of being here, I have been alternating between sales and operations. During my time working in the sales and marketing team, my main responsibilities were to build event contracts and communicate with the clients regarding their upcoming event. While in operations, I got first hand experience in setting up and overseeing these events alongside my managers and other Iowa State University Employees.

Accomplishments

This far, I think my greatest accomplishment is being able to plan and execute a whole event by my own from start to finish. This includes the planning, setting up and teardown of the whole event.

Learning experience

I feel the greatest lesson I have learned is to be willing to put myself out there. Before this, I was very reluctant to try out new things with the fear of being bad at it. This has changed as the events industry is going to be ever evolving, there are bound to be new challenges that pop up ever single day.

What advice would you give?

Although the food industry might not be one for everyone, do just give it a try. You never know what you might like. Previously before this internship, I was pretty certain I was never going to get myself in this line but I also never knew I would have enjoyed myself so much being in the food industry. Just try different things out, don't limit yourself to the things you're familiar with.
