Responsibilities

Some of the responsibilities I have had included setting up/tearing down various events, coordinating sponsorships, and community relations at events across the state. Representing the Karl Auto Group brand is also one of the main responsibilities that the interns have.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment this summer has been planning an event all by myself! It is a pay it forward event for one of our dealerships in Marshalltown at a local coffeeshop. It has been amazing to be in contact with the restaurant and personal of the dealership. Even though it is not an event I will be working, to know I was the one who put it together is very rewarding!

Learning experience

The greatest lesson I learned was to be confident! As an intern it is very easy to lay low and skate through the coattails of the day-to-day tasks. But to get the exciting opportunities, all you have to do is be confident in your skills and knowledge and ask for more responsibilities. I struggled with this in the beginning of my internship but after putting myself out there it has opened up lots of doors!

What advice would you give?

Do not wait! Apply for internships as soon as they come out and apply for several. It is best to apply for many so then you have options to weigh, and it ups your chances of getting an offer for a company you actually want to work for.
