Responsibilities

Organizing and carrying out activities for individuals with special needs. Understanding how the organization works and how I could help make events and planning them easier on staff. Helped create a fun and inclusive environment where individuals with varying levels of need could have fun and try their best at a different sports and activities.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment was creating 8 different activities where they could come in and move their bodies in whichever way they could to have fun and take part in our activities. I created a number of activities like a scavenger hunt, themed sports days, and more to have a fun and inclusive environment for individuals with disabilities.

Learning experience

The greatest lesson I learn was that things do not always go the way they were planned and that’s okay!! So many times did I spend weeks planning an event just for a small bump to change things that I had to learn to roll with. Being adaptable with change I something that everyone needs to learn and with all internships this is a common theme.

What advice would you give?

For future students I would tell them to always be ready to learn and adjust your way of thinking. Big or small, you will constantly be challenged in your thinking which is not a bad thing. Always be open to new ideas and scenarios which you might not expect. As you learn it is important to be open to these ideas, however that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t dismiss your inner concours or morals.
