Responsibilities

Being able to have people skills is really important. Not only are you coordinating, planning and executing the resident events that go on, you are interacting with residents on a daily basis. Budgeting is also very important in this job because you are given a budget every month and have to use that to plan your events accordingly. You get to know your residents (or clients) and create events based on what they are looking for.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment was probably creating, planning, and executing the turn over during the summer. I created folders, organized where painters will go and what rooms needed to be cleaned. I help escort them around the property to get all of the units done for those who will be moving in this fall. It was a lot of planning, but it worked out in the end with the help of my general manager and my leasing manager. We all worked together for weeks to get this process to run smoothly, which it did!

Learning experience

My greatest lesson learned is that it is very hard to please everyone. It is hard to make sure that everything gets done on time and well. I had a hard time accepting that when I thought the unit was in perfect condition and the resident thought otherwise. There was nothing more that I could do for them since they moved in, but I tried my best to make it work.

What advice would you give?

I would say some advice would be that if you are willing to be a leasing professional on the side, then this is the job for you. I was also a leasing professional which meant I would give future residents tours, talk to them on the phone and answer any questions, and make sure they felt comfortable with where they were living. Along with that, I planned some fun little resident events such as bagel bars, nacho bars, future promo merchandise, and move in gifts. It's essentially two jobs in one internship, but it was fun and worth it.
