Responsibilities
My responsibilities as the front desk talent is to check guests in and out, verify that rooms are clean and ready to stay in, handle complaints, log all guest room moves, block (assign) rooms to the guest coming in for the next day, and lastly I need to make sure all of our loyalty members are taken care of and get upgraded rooms. When I am not busy at the front desk, I go in back and help the managers out with third party reservations, balancing the house, guests needs, and communicating with other departments so everything runs smoothly. During my night shifts I would sit in back and scan all the receipts from the restaurant, grab n go, valet, and IRD. On occasion I do other tasks if were not busy but these are my main responsibilities.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment during my internship would have to be learning the system so quick and being the top upgrader, most loyalty program enrolls, and top employee to enforce going green in the hotel. This would have to be my greatest accomplishment because doing these things have helped me see how the hotels runs and how such a little thing as going green benefits the hotel.
What advice would you give?
Some advice I would give to future students is to accept an internship where you would want to work once you graduate. This is very important because you'll get to know the city better, and you'll get a feel of how it is to work in that location. Also another piece of advice I have is to not look at what they are paying you for the internship. Accept the internship for the experience and knowledge not the pay (pay is just a benefit).
