Lauren Snyder

Responsibilities

As a marketing intern, I work directly with several sports here at Iowa State. I assist in planning upcoming game themes, promotions, giveaways, and more to enhance the game day experience for ISU fans of all ages. Then on gamedays, we execute and assist in the production of ISU sporting events too. Some of our responsibilities include shooting T-Shirts, organizing on-field presentations, running media-timeout activities, doing door giveaways/raffles, playing music, assisting with game production, and more! Basically, almost everything happening during the game that isn't the game itself is related to our department and what I do.

Accomplishments

Last winter, I worked as a lead intern in wrestling and gymnastics. We crushed both of our goals for attendance in these two sports, and I like to think the experiences I helped to plan had a part in that.

Learning experience

I have learned so much (and still am every day) about marketing, planning events, guest experience, and social media. On top of this, I have learned a ton about teamwork, healthy workplace culture, communication, and work-life balance. I've also built a ton of confidence as an employee. These soft skills aren't learned in the classroom like event planning is, but they will take me far in my future!

What advice would you give?

Get involved! I am so happy about the involvement I've had at ISU. Having an on-campus job is really convenient, too, because the hour limit allows you to still prioritize your studies and be involved with other things on campus. I've served as event staff for ISU AfterDark, a tutor and mentor through the office of student-athlete development, a Marketing Director for SUB, Public Relations Chair (2021) for ISU Homecoming, and now co-director for ISU Homecoming. Take the leap and pursue your passions -- you will meet so many amazing people and make so many invaluable memories!
