Responsibilities
During my internship, I managed the MyCityMyHealth podcast, which involved conducting background research on featured guests and developing thoughtful interview questions. I also created promotional materials, such as flyers and graphics, for the social media page and contributed content to the weekly newsletter to support community outreach. In addition, I conducted in-depth research on public health issues and monitored social media trends to help tailor content for greater engagement and relevance.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment during my internship was the work I did on the MyCityMyHealth podcast. Watching the progression from the first episode to the final one was incredibly rewarding, and it showed how much I had grown in researching, interviewing, and content development. I was especially proud to apply those podcasting skills at the conference, where I conducted post-panel interviews, an experience that allowed me to engage with professionals and share their insights with a broader audience.
Learning experience
One of the greatest lessons I learned during my internship was the importance of preparation and adaptability. Whether it was researching podcast guests, crafting interview questions, or creating social media content, I learned how essential it is to be thorough and intentional with my work. Most importantly, I learned the value of using my voice to uplift others and share stories that matter, especially within the context of public health and community impact.
What advice would you give?
My advice to future students in my major is to take every opportunity to apply what you're learning outside of the classroom. Internships, volunteer work, and campus involvement can give you real-world experience that deepens your understanding of human development. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, seek mentorship, and push yourself outside your comfort zone, especially when it comes to networking and public speaking. Most importantly, stay connected to your “why.” Remember who/what you're advocating for and let that passion guide your work.
