The main responsibilities include assisting the Events Director with booking, planning and preparing for different types of events. Other responsibilities include bartending, event setup and tear down, inventory control and basic accounting. Customer service is a big part of this internship.
My greatest accomplishment from my internship was helping a bride plan her reception from start to finish. I got to meet with the bride when she came in for her first consultation and I was able to go along the entire process with her. This meant that I was there to help her pick out and plan the table decorations and pick a meal plan. I was there the day that she set up the decorations and I helped her vision come to life. And I was there on her wedding night making sure the reception went on without any complications. It was very rewarding to see it all come together.
What advice would you give?
My advice is for students that aren't sure what avenue they want to go down in event management. My advice is to get an internship at a place where you can experience many different types of events. This way you will get a better perspective on which parts of the events industry you like, and which parts you don't like.
