Responsibilities

At DSM Performance, I worked on the Acceleration Iowa side of the gym. I worked to communicate better with athletes ranging from 8-18 years old. I created and instructed lifts and drills for the athletes. I worked with athletes on the super treadmill and helped them get faster while improving form. I led plyometric protocols, core exercises, dynamic warm-up and static stretching. I helped with some organization and cleaning tasks in the gym as well.

Accomplishments

I built connections with every athlete in the program. I got to know these athletes and helped them progress to reach their goals. While doing this, I was also able to improve my coaching skills and become a stronger coach.

Learning experience

I learned how to connect with and coach younger athletes. I also picked up many great techniques to keep focus and engagement high throughout the sessions.

What advice would you give?

Get as many experiences under your belt as you can. Learning by observing and doing will help supplement your knowledge and progress your coaching. Do not let your internship be the first experience you have in a Kinesiology setting.
