Responsibilities

I participated in cardiac rehab and in the medically oriented gym. I was responsible for taking blood pressures and heart rates while patients were exercising. I would lead the classes in warm-ups and different exercises correcting their form as need be. I had the opportunity to sit in on stress tests and help out. I prepared educational presentations on different health topics to present to the classes each week.

Accomplishments

I had a very hands-on learning experience. I was able to participate in classes more than I expected, which was absolutely a great experience. This led me to accomplish many skills such as taking accurate blood pressures and heart rates many times a day, hooking up patients correctly to the ECG monitors, increasing my leadership by leading warm-ups and exercises, and increasing my public speaking skills by giving educational presentations once a week.

What advice would you give?

I have learned that working in this field requires you to have great customer service. If you do not have experience in this, you will learn pretty fast. It is so helpful to be close with your patients because it takes our service of helping them improve their lives physically and emotionally to another level. You also have to be very passionate in this field because helping someone with their own life is nothing you can half-way do. You need to give it your all and really enjoy it.
