Responsibilities

Responsibilities include assisting with grant writing/budgeting, attending meetings with the Public Health Director, creating presentations for the department, understanding the purpose of local public health services, volunteering in community programs, meeting with community partners, Community Outreach Project, learn the purpose of emergency preparedness, and the willingness to try new things.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment was the Community Outreach Project that was tasked by my agency advisor. I chose to do a physical education enhancement program for one of the school districts within the county. Through this program, I was able to interact with students K-4 and learn all about their motives. It was a great learning experience and gave me a basis of future projects with this age group.

Learning experience

The biggest lessons I learned from this internship are being open-minded, never being afraid to ask questions, and continuing to network throughout your internship; doors will continuously open if you treat the internship as a career.

What advice would you give?

Find anything you enjoy doing outside of the classroom/work space. Everyone needs time to destress and do something enjoyable. Also, do not be afraid to try something new and completely different than what you are used to. The more people you get involved with, the more fun college can be.
