Responsibilities
My responsibilities included training clients in both a personal and athletic training environment. Another responsibility of the Internship is to give tours of the facility at any given time. Along with giving tours of the facility I was responsible for membership sign-ups and possible cancelations. Outreach to other businesses and possible clients is a big thing at this internship. Outreach can be done with either a phone call or an email and is used to secure buyers for the True Force machine or getting meetings to get clients for Premier Athlete Training. Finally, creating promotional materials and informational materials for the facility or businesses.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment during my time at the Athletic Club of Ames is outreaching to The Grove and getting a deal with them for a discounted rate for their residents to have a membership at the facility. It required a lot of outreach in different forms and several meetings to get the deal to go through as well as being able to attend their open house event to personally outreach to their new residents.
Learning experience
The greatest lesson that I learned at the Athletic Club of Ames was how to adapt to different environments on the fly. There are multiple situations where you are going to have to have multiple clients or classes that are going at the same time and knowing how to adapt so that you are not neglecting any clients and making sure that they are doing their exercises properly.
What advice would you give?
My advice for future students is to take in all of the information that you are going to have in classes. All of the information that you learn in the classroom is used in the professional setting more than you think it would be. Your clients are going to have specific needs and different experiences in the exercise setting. Knowing how to program and accommodate for people no matter what they are focusing on is a skill that is going to take you far in this field.
