Madeline Miller
Responsibilities
During my internship I do many different tasks and wear a lot of hats. Many of my responsibilities are given to me on a day-to-day basis. Some of my jobs include co-planning classroom counseling lessons, I assist my supervisor in small group lessons, mentoring students in a poetry group, collecting and analyzing qualitative data, and researching materials for future lessons.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment from this experience would probably be connecting with the students and staff in this building in such a short amount of time. I feel comfortable and confident speaking up at times during administrative meetings with faculty, parents, and students because I feel I have been very intentional in building these relationships.
What advice would you give?
Advice I have for future students is to really go after an internship that will help move you in the direction of the career that you want to pursue. It would have been way easier for me to just sign on to work at a daycare and get paid for my time, but that's not what would have given me experience in knowing if I wanted to go to grad school for school counseling. This is a better use of my time and I am learning so much while having so much fun!
