Responsibilities

Interns have the responsibilities of knowing and using the copy machine, creating and filing home studies for foster care, adoption, and renewals. Interns will also observe meetings with foster families and are encouraged to ask questions and participate in the meeting. In addition, Interns will sit in on all meetings, take notes, conduct reference calls, and organize files. The intern is required to be attentive, organized, and timely. It is strongly encouraged for the intern to have reliable transportation as they will be traveling to and from the northern Iowa district.

Accomplishments

I am very proud that I got to attend meetings with foster families and write their home studies. These home studies are the determining factor if a family will be approved to be a foster/adoptive family and are extremely important. I am honored to be able to be apart of the licensing process for the wonderful families that I have been in contact with.

What advice would you give?

Your planner and your email will be your best friends in the workplace. Make connections within the first week of your internship. Be open to criticism and ask many questions.
