Responsibilities

During the week at the office, my responsibilities include putting together stationary, packing and unpacking rentals, updating timelines, running errands (post office, warehouse, print shop, other rentals from events like florals, linens, etc.). Weekends are a lot busier than during the week. If we have a wedding/event, we will all meet at the office to load all of the rentals and make sure we have everything packed that we need. Once we get to the wedding/event, I help unload the van, start setting up (tables, chairs, dinnerware, linens, florals, candles, etc.), make sure everything is in place and we are on track with the timeline, help gather the bridal party before/after the ceremony and going into the cocktail hour and/or reception, direct guests on where to go, hand out programs, put away leftovers from dinner and desert, and then at the end of the night pack up all of the rentals we brought and bring them back to the office.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment during my internship experience was being the lead during tear down. Although the event had already happened, my boss and a few other employees had another event to go to, so my boss told me I was the lead and trusted me to go to the venue from the previous day and pack up all of our rentals, set things aside for the bride, and go back to the office to put everything away. I felt really accomplished when she said I would be the lead because it gave me the confidence boost that I have been doing a good job and ensured me that she had confidence in me as well.

Learning experience

In every event class I have taken, we learn to always expect the unexpected with events and I have always kept that in mind when working events, and it is very true that something unexpected could always happen, so its important to act in an efficient and timely manner. Moreover, you are working very long hours, so be sure to take care of yourself and take time to relax or do things you love on your time off.

What advice would you give?

Always ask questions! It is better to ask a question, even if you think it is a "dumb" question, to ensure you are doing everything correctly.
