Responsibilities

The intern will work closely with the Event Specialist and the Executive Director planning established events and researching new events for the arboretum. The intern will be involved in marketing events and creating documents, brochures and other pieces to support events. The intern will also assist with setting up, managing, and tearing down weddings at the arboretum.

Accomplishments

In the first month of my internship, I was allowed to implement and run an event on my own. It was a car show at the Arboretum that happens annually, but with my help the number of people who attended the event was almost doubled this year. I created ads and posted them on social media to spread awareness, called and emailed people who had attended in the past and sent out formal invitations for the event, and coordinated the caterer. It was a huge success for the Arboretum and for me.

What advice would you give?

Start looking and applying for internships as early as you can. Internships are in high demand and they will go quickly.
