Responsibilities

During my time at House of Z, I served as a creative design intern on the ZAC Zac Posen design team. some of my main tasks included: Assisting the ZAC Zac Posen design and product development teams with tasks during the creation of the Spring 2020 Collection, conducting market research for the upcoming season, organizing and filing the incoming and outgoing production samples and creating a capsule collection of my own for Spring 2020. For this capsule collection, I worked one on one with my supervisors to complete.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment from the internship was the completion and presentation of my Spring 2020 ZAC Zac Posen capsule collection. I worked all summer on this project, and it was so fun to actually design for a specific brand and customer. I was given the inspiration for the season along with fabric choices out of the actual fabrics used for the Spring 2020 collection. The goal was to create a line that had the potential to actually sell to the ZAC Zac Posen customer as well as fit in with the overall aesthetic of the Zac Posen brand. I worked with my supervisors throughout the summer and they gave me feedback and advice each week. They really tried to take me through the design process they use. I was super proud of my work in the end, and I received great feedback from my supervisors!

What advice would you give?

You will find as an intern, it is sometimes hard to feel like what you are doing even matters and there could even be days you feel you are not doing much work. Really, in the grand scheme of things, every little task leads towards the greater goal and the finished product. The important thing to do is observe observe observe. During an internship, you have the opportunity to be the eyes and ears of a brand you look up to. You are finally seeing how the industry works. You need to soak in everything you see like a sponge. Really utilize this. I took so many notes and pictures throughout the summer. So, even if you don't have a lot of tasks in the day, you should still be taking away so many lessons just from what you are observing around you.
