Responsibilities
My responsibility during my internship as an assistant chef is to help inside the kitchen. Mise on place, have everything ready for the chef as cutting and cleaning vegetables, prepare the fish and meat, plating, decorating, cleaning the kitchen once the service is done, and more responsibilities preparing dishes.
Accomplishments
In my opinion, the greatest accomplishment during my internship experience is the amount of knowledge I gain regarding cooking. I've always been a fan of good food and good quality and that's what we serve at Can Frasquet. Having the experience of preparing delicious dishes helped me gain knowledge about flavors, species, and products that combine and take a normal dish to the next level.
Learning experience
The greatest lesson I've learned from my internship is to be patient. As I said before, I've always been a fan of good food and quality and I had a bit of knowledge about food and cooking before the internship and I wanted to show my supervisor my passion for cooking but, obviously, I don't have that much knowledge as a professional has. Claudio, my supervisor, taught me to go step by step, even though I have some idea how to cook and as he says, the talent to cook. To someday become a chef or whatever you want to be in your life, we have to start from the bottom, which in my case is cleaning the dishes, cutting vegetables, cleaning fish and meat, the basics in a kitchen. This is the greatest lesson for me, taking it easy, going step by step, and enjoy the process.
What advice would you give?
My advice for future students is to look for an internship that really interests them. Find a good place and do a job that passionate them will be the best experience they can have because, even though, working is always hard, they will enjoy the experience and the knowledge gained and will help them find their path for they professional future.
