Every day at Celebrations is different. Prepping rental items is a major part of the internship. This can involve pressing linens, washing chargers and utensils, ensuring all orders have the appropriate counts of items, etc. Quite often I made event rental or balloon deliveries. Rental consultations are another big part of the position. Some consultations are done over the phone. The phone rings constantly so I prepared myself to answer a variety of questions. The events side of the store took up a majority of my time, but when I had extra time I focused on the retail side of the store. For example, entering new items into the computer system, putting the current holiday theme items onto the floor, and ringing up clients.
My greatest accomplishment was feeling comfortable by myself helping clients with consultations. There is an extensive list of items that are available for rent. I’ve become familiar with all the prices, colors, counts, and measurements of rental items.
What advice would you give?
Networking is crucial. You never know who will come into the store and the opportunities that they can bring you. Set goals with deadlines for yourself.
