Responsibilities
My responsibilities throughout my internship included planning and executing the visual merchandising throughout the shop, helping and working hands on with brides to find their wedding dresses, and creating social media content. Every other week, I would plan a new layout and theme for the visual displays throughout the store and it was my responsibility to make sure it was executed before the busy weekend. I was also able to work as a consultant and have my own bridal appointments where I worked one on one with brides to find their wedding dresses for their special day. And lastly, I was able to come up with new marketing ideas and social media content like Tik Tok and Instagram posts.
Accomplishments
I would say that my greatest accomplishment during my internship experience was helping brides find their wedding dress. This was a very special experience for me because I was able to use what I was learning in the classroom with what I was being taught every day on the job to help someone with such an important moment in their life. Every time I successfully helped a bride find her yes dress, I gained confidence in what I had been learning.
Learning experience
I think the greatest lesson I learned throughout my internship was to trust everything I had learned and the skills that I had obtained. While I put a huge priority on listening and learning from other people at my job, I found that listening to what my gut was telling me really paid off when it came to my bridal appointments. My job was learning how to read body language and take what I was being told to find the perfect dress for the bride. Trusting my skills ended up being a very important lesson I needed to learn and ended up giving me a lot more confidence when it came to getting the job done.
What advice would you give?
Some advice I would give to future students in my major would be to take advantage of as many opportunities as you can. I often would miss out on amazing opportunities because I was too scared to go for it but they don’t come around very often and they can be so beneficial when it comes to making connections for your future career.
