Responsibilities

During my internship with Can Play (adapted sports), I attending programming sessions for adults, teens, and children, as well as our HERS program that offers sessions for young girls with different financial needs, and spent time within the office working on various projects. Responsibilities within programming sessions looks like leading a group of participants through each station and supporting their various needs. Within the HERS program, responsibilities looks like leading stations as well and really being present as a teammate and supporting each individual. Office responsibilities looks like assisting with various projects and coming up with fun new ideas for programming sessions.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment was building relationships with everyone, especially within our adult group. I was able to really open up with this group and truly be a fun teammate for them. I was greeted every Tuesday morning with hugs, coloring pages, and tons of questions about my weekend.

Learning experience

I learned a lot about assisting various needs at once. Most cases in the past, working with special needs looked like one-on-one care and assistance. Within this internship I was able to learn a lot about assisting those with various needs in a group setting.

What advice would you give?

Don't be afraid to ask more questions on ways to improve. I think it is always best to put yourself out there and show those around you that you care to be the best you can! You are also just an intern, so if responsibilities start to feel like a lot, it is okay to speak up and advocate for yourself :) This experience is supposed to be fun and a way to grow so when you feel out of your comfort zone, you're suppose to!
