Responsibilities
As an Alterations Specialist at David’s Bridal I perform professional alterations on bridal gowns, bridesmaid dresses, and formal wear to ensure each piece fits perfectly and meets the client’s vision. I handle sewing tasks such as hemming, taking in or letting out seams, and adding bustles while making adjustments using both hand sewing and machine sewing. I work with stylists and other team members to provide a smooth and stress free experience for brides and their parties. Along with tailoring garments I focus on delivering excellent quality and keeping the workspace clean and organized to meet company standards.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment during my internship at David’s Bridal was becoming confident in completing complex alterations on my own. I learned to handle detailed sewing tasks like hemming and adding bustles, which helped improve both my skills and efficiency.
Learning experience
The greatest lessons I learned from my experience were the importance of patience, attention to detail, and teamwork. I realized how much small adjustments can impact the final look of a garment and how working together with others helps everything run smoothly.
What advice would you give?
My advice for future fashion students is to take every hands on opportunity you can and really practice your sewing and technical skills. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or make mistakes. They’re the best way to learn. Most importantly, stay open-minded and creative, because every experience helps shape your style and confidence as a designer.
