Ryan Walsh
Responsibilities
My Duties were to staff and operate my own Bar and Grill. The team of interns were all split up into different departments and were put in charge of those departments. For the Grill, I was in charge of hiring and firing of staff, making their schedule, planning/executing numerous improvement projects/orientations, and day to day operations. The level of experience from this internship is unmatched.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment during the internship was being able to interview, hire and manage my own steam of staff to operate my own restaurant. In the beginning, I had doubts of weather or not I would succeed in this fast paced environment. However, the experience was a roaring success that I would recommend to anybody looking for an internship in the hospitality industry.
Learning experience
My Greatest accomplishment during my internship was learning how to thrive under stressful situations. Pressure can build up from lots of different things in lots of different ways so its important to know how handle it.
What advice would you give?
The Best advice I can give to future students is to be in the moment. Stay present in your situation and enjoy where you are. If you are constantly thinking of how things could be better or how you wish you were somewhere else, you cant enjoy the moment you are in right now. You may find yourself in a rough spot at times, but its all part of the experience.
