Responsibilities

During my internship, I reported to the Development Director. I helped with organizing donations for the annual Gala, as well as picking up different donations for our fundraisers. I also worked on spreadsheets and flyers for our building and events. Finally, I helped with our Feed the Kids Initiative, which involved working with restaurant donations for dinner.

Accomplishments

The greatest accomplishment I had was completing a successful annual Gala. There is a lot of work that goes into the Gala, and we had a record year in terms of donations. Everybody felt it was a huge success, and it was a lot of fun to see all of the hard work pay off for the kids we serve.

Learning experience

I learned the importance of teamwork, as there is so much collaboration that had to be done for the fundraising events. I also learned the importance of putting the people you serve first. Everything that I did during my internship was to help youth have a better experience at the Boys and Girls Club, and I believe that is the most important thing in this position.

What advice would you give?

I would say to cherish these moments, as the opportunities you get now are once in a lifetime. To be able to intern in a place that you are passionate about without a lot of risk is something you may never get again in life. It is important to cherish what you do and learn during this time because it goes so fast.
