I assist most with the Downtown Farmers Market and the World Food and Music Festival. My responsibilities with the Farmers Market involve communicating weekly with our onsite non-profits, organizations and sponsors, assisting with EBT tracking and merchandise refills, tracking an ISU research study and doing a weekly binder refresh. My work on the World Food and Music Festival consists of creating the programming and doing the recruiting for the cooking demonstrations during the festival, confirming the onsite non-profit organizations and supporting with any production as needed. I work closely with the team and help in any way possible.

The greatest accomplishment during my internship experience has been the responsibility I’ve been given in regards to the cooking demonstration tent during the World Food and Music Festival. Getting to recruit the chefs, be their sole point of contact and truly getting to be pretty in charge of the programming was a great learning experience. It was cool to watch it all come together.

Learning experience

One great lesson I’ve learned during my internship has just been from being in the office environment. The sort of culture difference between being in school and being in the corporate lifestyle has been an adjustment, so just learning the ins and outs has been very eye opening. I feel that i’ve gained more professionalism and confidence.

What advice would you give?

Never doubt yourself! Apply for any internship you want to whether you think they may have a million other applicants, be confident and back yourself. Never miss out on an opportunity to learn and grow, so always be sure to say “yes” to new opportunities that present themselves to you!
