Responsibilities
Catering food for three or more events a month. Creating and sending out weekly newsletters about our events. Contacting students and other staff members about working together for events. Designing and setting up event spaces for events we hold. Creating and tracking forms and surveys created about our events.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment from my internship is cooking for and helping put together an event called nations night. At the event, we decided to hand-make Indian food for 60+ people, and I was in charge of it. I was complimented on how the food tasted as well as how it was presented. I also helped set up stations at this event and directed people where to go. I was complimented on how well the event ran and how fun it was to attend. I state this as my greatest accomplishment because it was the biggest event I worked and I felt it ran smoothly. I took on a lot of responsibility at this event, and my hard work paid off.
Learning experience
How to manage time effectively. How to manage a lot of people at once. How to cater an event for 20-70 people. How to communicate with others when stressed. To ask questions but seek them out on my own at first if possible. Embrace your limits and take on what you can do well, not what you can manage at your mid potential.
What advice would you give?
My advice for future interns in our major would be to intern for a company where you do work you are passionate about rather than one that pays well. Yes, money is important. However, this is a chance for us to find what we love to do, and the money will come later.
