Responsibilities

Will assist in organizing and conducting the following events: Winter Iowa Games, Live Healthy Iowa 5K, Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Championships, Iowa Senior Games, Iowa Senior Games regional competitions and Summer Iowa Games. Duties will include but are not limited to: coordinating Iowa Senior Games events, assisting with entry materials, marketing and promoting the event, data entry, website updates, confirmation letters, team schedules, equipment, recruitment of volunteers and event set up and tear down.

Accomplishments

I think my greatest accomplishment from this internship was learning how to work with different types of people. I encountered many different characters that challenged me to think outside the box as well as my patience.

Learning experience

The biggest lesson I learned during this internship was that hard work pays off in the end. My entire internship revolved around one large event at the end of the summer. Because of this, it felt like all we were doing was working and not accomplishing anything. After the event, we finally saw how our work impacted the athletes.

What advice would you give?

Some advice for future students would be that internships can be intimidating. You will not grow without experience. Be brave, and be yourself. You never know what opportunities will arise from taking that step.
