Responsibilities

• Become familiar with emergency procedures • Learn to risk stratify patients and provide information on risk factor modification • Evaluate and understand physician referral and medical membership process • Assist with and provide new member/patient consultations • Assist with and provide individual fitness assessments • Assist with and provide equipment orientation • Assist with and provide medical exercise rehab training sessions • Assist with and provide personal training sessions • Assist with and provide Rock Steady Boxing sessions • Assist with patient check-in prior to session and checkout upon completion • Assist with and provide blood pressure and oxygen saturation measurements on patients • Assist with and acquire fatigue and pain ratings of patient • Review patient training session chart’s daily • Assist with data collections and outcomes reporting • Work on selected projects or assignments as per the request of staff • Participate in staff meetings and organizational events as appropriate • Develop effective exercise leadership skills • Gain experience upon which to build professional career • Integrating academic theory and technique with practical applications • Opportunity to develop skills and knowledge within areas of professional interest • Broaden the student's concept of their professional field • Provide experiences that will expand the student's understanding of human behavior

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment during my internship was being able to lead Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinson's patients at the health and wellness center. I had so much fun connecting with them during those 10 weeks!

What advice would you give?

My advice for future students is to try everything and be involved. You are trying to make connections for your future career and it's important to be very open to trying new things.
