Responsibilities
My responsibilities throughout this internship has progressed through the course of this wedding season. In the beginning as I was still getting to know the people and venue, my responsibilities were just attending to wedding guests needs and keeping the space presentable. As time has gone on; my responsibilities now include assisting in coordination, communicating with vendors, and making sure the timeline of the night is followed through.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment during my internship has been my progress in my communication skills. In this industry, you communicate with all different vendors, families, and potential clients daily. The way that you communicate with each person varies, but the clearer you communicate; the best experience you give them. Since this internship, I feel that I can verbally and nonverbally communicate with all sorts of people, in a professional and informative way.
Learning experience
One of the greatest lessons I've learned is that as you're learning, you're going to make mistakes that will affect other people. It is important to address the situation, and let someone know who can be reactive and make it right. I've learned that it happens, and matters more on how you react, rather than trying to act like it didn't happen.
What advice would you give?
My advice for future students is to take advantage of every opportunity that crosses your path. My internship this summer I never even considered until 2 weeks before applications closed, I saw it pop up a few times and thought why not. The event industry is a lot of hours and hard work, but in my opinion is one of the most rewarding industries to be in. So go meet people, network yourself, and never underestimate the opportunities that your actions can lead you to.
