Responsibilities

The DATS lab employees are responsible for completing student orders in a timely manner, and keeping track of orders and invoices. We also are tasked with cleaning and maintaining all machines, making sure equipment is in function, and keeping an inventory of supplies. We do a lot of communicating with students and faculty, so it is important that we be professional while providing a friendly environment.

Accomplishments

One of my greatest accomplishments has definitely been building connections with both my peers and supervisors in the DATS lab. I’ve especially appreciated getting to know and learn from Yvonne Lee and Michelle Beaudet. They have offered very helpful insight into working in a professional setting, and given advice that I will take with me in my future career. One of the main things I have taken away from them is how valuable it is to actively engage with those around you; whether by asking questions, offering help, or just being open to learning from other people.

Learning experience

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned from my experience so far is how to problem solve and always be flexible. Whether it’s adapting to changing workloads, troubleshooting machines, or supporting others’ ideas, I’ve learned that staying calm, open-minded, and collaborative is key to making progress. This has helped me become more confident in my technical skills, while also strengthening my ability to connect with others and work within a team.

What advice would you give?

My advice to future students is to take full advantage of hands-on learning opportunities and to stay open to trying new things. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or reach out to people in your department. Building relationships with faculty, staff, and fellow students can really help your growth and lead to unexpected opportunities. Also, stay organized and flexible; some days will be busier than others, and being able to adapt is key.
