My responsibilities include working in different areas of the restaurant in order to gain experience in what it takes to run a restaurant. For example, I will be involved with back of the house activities such as dishwashing, food prep, inventory, and cooking. I could also work in front of the house such as hosting and customer service.
So far, my greatest accomplishment has been learning how to use the french fry cutter, which is a lot harder than one would think. I also have been involved in food prep, which is very fulfilling because I am helping prepare foods that will be served to future customers.
It is important to get experience in all parts of the restaurant because then I will be able to do any job in my future restaurant that I want to own. It is important to recognize that even being a dishwasher is important to the overall functioning of the restaurant and nobody is above that kind of work.
What advice would you give?
Make sure you go into your internship, especially if you are in the restaurant industry, with an open mind, a positive attitude, and a high work ethic. Make sure you are willing to give it your all and work harder than anyone so you can leave a good impression on your boss and get the most out of your internship experience.
