Responsibilities

My primary responsibilities fall within my lead sports of volleyball and men's basketball. My role on game day looks like running sound director during the game, or leading the promo activities happening during the game. I also get the privilege of working football games, doing all things fan engagement (shooting t-shirts, TIFOS, or setting up the prior day). Outside of game days, I work office hours to prep and ensure game days will run smoothly and efficiently. These responsibilities include but aren't limited to rolling t-shirts, marketing, or preparing prizes.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment comes less from a tangible moment, and more from the overall emotion and rush I get from stepping onto the field or court on game day. The atmosphere of adrenaline, passion, and community is unmatched. Pushing myself to apply for this internship has put me out of my comfort zone in the best way possible, and has helped me discover the career path I want to pursue. The realm of sports is exhilarating each and everyday, with so many possibilities and unforgettable experiences. Through these authentic moments, I have created so many memories that will stay with me for life. So when I reflect on what I consider to be my greatest accomplishment within my internship experience, it is undoubtably finding clarity in my purpose, having the courage to chase it, and embracing the experience of it all.

Learning experience

Within my internship thus far, I have learned to ask any and all questions that I may have. With a lot of responsibility on our plate and being in an unfamiliar environment, we are navigating this new path and questions are going to arise. I have learned along the way that it's not only okay to ask questions, they are welcomed and we are in this internship to learn. Aside from this valuable lesson, I have learned the importance of being proactive. Game days in particular can be hectic and requires you to always be up to speed on what needs to happen and when. Things may not always happen in the way they are supposed to and in many instances in sports, there isn't a set schedule for things. For example, we can't plan when a touchdown will happen, but being proactive and ensuring everything is set helps everything run efficiently for when it does.

What advice would you give?

Building relationships with people is incredibly important. Within my time at Iowa State University, I have had the privilege to meet so many amazing individuals. Connecting with others has opened so many doors whether it was a job, collaboration, or other experiences. You never know where a conversation might lead you, and therefore my advice is to get to know as many people as you can and to embrace every opportunity that comes your way while still in college.
