Responsibilities

My responsibilities during my internship is assisting the event manager. I help respond to emails with clients about their upcoming events, run the food and beverage counter and beverage cart, answer phone calls, use all steamed to set up the event room. On the day of the event I help with the full day start to finish. Set up for the event, serve during the event and help out with any issues, and tear down after the event is complete and run the invoice with my boss.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment during my internship is helping with an event start to finish. My manager let me take control of the event for the day and everything went very smoothly. I was there with the clients, helping with any request needed and was the person to go if there was any issue, concern, or objective for the event that day. I was very proud that I was able to let my manager watch and show him what I have learned form observing and helping him and then got to do it all on my own.

Learning experience

One of the greatest lessons I have learned in my internship is how to approach and fix mistakes with clients. In the event industry mistakes are bound to come up. However, it is how you handle the issues after the they have happened what makes for quick turn around. I have learned how to communicate with clients to not cause worry and to fix mistakes quick and efficiently. Something I have learned is how to avoid that mistake from happening again. It is understandable that accidents happen but it is import to avoid the accident from happening again.

What advice would you give?

Advice that I have for students in my major is to carry yourself in a manner that portraits you are aware and in control of the event you are in charge of. Even if you are not sure of what’s going on, carrying a confidence about yourself can go a long way.
