Responsibilities
As a behavioral technician, I followed programming pre-written by BCBAs within the clinic pertaining to each client. I kept client dignity intact as I did so, ensuring they had the best chance for success. The programming was entirely unique to each client, meeting them where they are.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment is truly the rapport I have built with my clients. It is so rewarding and heart warming to see the trust that I have gained from the clients through hard work and to see the shift in tolerance when it comes to running progressions with them.
Learning experience
The greatest lesson I learned was to slow down - progress can be slow moving and it can be difficult for clients to begin to grow, but that does not mean to give up. Work hard and remain consistent to gain support from clients.
What advice would you give?
I strongly recommend planning your internship ahead of time - do not cut things close with hours or if you are not being paid! Plan where you will be months in advance.
