Responsibilities
My daily responsibilities included assisting with facility operations, maintaining and organizing equipment, helping ensure the gym and training areas stayed clean and safe, and supporting staff with day-to-day tasks to keep operations running efficiently. I also interacted regularly with members by answering questions, providing assistance with equipment, and helping create a welcoming and professional environment. Throughout the internship, I gained hands-on experience with leadership, communication, and teamwork by working closely with supervisors and other staff members during busy shifts, events, and training activities. I assisted with monitoring facility usage, preparing workout and training spaces, and helping manage general operational responsibilities within the athletic club. In addition, I observed and contributed to areas related to customer service, business operations, and organizational efficiency, which gave me a broader understanding of how both the fitness and business sides of the company function together. The internship also allowed me to strengthen important professional skills such as problem-solving, adaptability, time management, and professionalism. As well as gaining experience in programming, strength and speed and agility for athletes.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment during my internship was the growth I made professionally and personally while taking on a wide variety of responsibilities within the organization. Throughout the internship, I became more confident working independently, communicating with members and staff, and handling daily operational tasks in a fast-paced environment. Being trusted with responsibilities related to facility operations, customer service, and overall organization showed me that I was capable of contributing in a meaningful way to the team.
Learning experience
One of the greatest lessons I learned from my internship experience was the importance of communication and teamwork in a professional environment. I learned that even simple day-to-day operations rely heavily on staff members working together effectively and communicating clearly with one another. Whether helping members, assisting supervisors, or completing operational tasks, strong communication helped create a smoother and more positive experience for everyone involved.
What advice would you give?
My advice for future students in my major is to take every opportunity to gain hands-on experience and apply what you learn in the classroom to real-world situations. Classes provide important knowledge, but internships, practical experiences, and networking opportunities are where you truly develop professional skills and confidence. Getting involved early, asking questions, and being willing to learn from others can make a huge difference in your growth and future career opportunities.
