Responsibilities

During my internship I was responsible for creating copy and posting on social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. I also learned to use scheduling programs in order to create social media campaigns for concerts at venues in Des Moines. Along with using programs, I also had to post manually for my festival project that I worked on throughout the summer.

Accomplishments

I believe my greatest accomplishment was simply learning something new. I had never done social media marketing professionally, and it was something I was very curious to learn about. it is something I would definitely like to implement into my future career. I am very glad I gained this experience and was able to work in the music venue industry.

Learning experience

One of the greatest lessons I learned from my experience was communication. My internship was remote, so I had to learn how to communicate with my supervisors and coworkers to get things done and have any questions I had answered. I had to send a lot of emails, text messages, and also set up zoom meetings to ensure I was able to communicate effectively.

What advice would you give?

The advice I would give for a student in my major is to not be afraid to ask for help. You do not have to figure everything out on your own. There are so many different parts to event management, and things change daily. It is not a downfall to ask for help or clarification, it will only strengthen your professional relationships and give you an opportunity to learn.
