Responsibilities
With my role as an educator and visual merchandiser, a key responsibility is to stay up to date on all the fabric, features, and functions of the products carried. This is to ensure we are empowering each guest to make the best possible decision for themselves with the information we provide them. There is a large emphasis put on delivering the best, most authentic guest experience so that each and every guest is confident in the products they purchase. With visual merchandising, the store layout and displays are constantly moving and being rearranged by the day. Responsibilities for visual merchandising include strategically grouping items next to each other and placing them in different locations throughout the store. These visual displays are meant to be eye catching and tell a story.
Accomplishments
The greatest feeling for me, is when a guest pulls me aside and personally thanks me for helping them out. Especially when its their first shopping experience at Lululemon, it means a lot when they say they've had a great experience. For example, there was a mother and daughter I was helping pick out some leggings for, and I really wanted to make sure we found the best pair for them. After I had helped them find what they were looking for, I ended up losing them as the store started to fill up. Later that day, the mom walked in just so she could thank me for making her daughters day. She explained to me how her daughter had really been struggling to find clothes that made her feel confident and fit her right. Just something as simple as putting a bit of time to figure out the guests needs and find what they were looking for was able to change this whole girls day. Little moments like that are what make me feel the most accomplished. It doesn't have to be something big, but being able to impact someones day means a lot to me.
Learning experience
Working in store, and constantly being on the sales floor, you get to learn a lot about people and experience a variety of different interactions each day. With that, I was able to learn a lot more in terms of understanding and connecting with a wide range of people. A big lesson I've learned is that a little kindness can go a long way. Something as little as smiling at someone or having inviting body language can have a large affect on a guests experience. Obviously this is something that applies to everything, not just work, but I've been able to get a lot more practice with my time here. You never know what someones going through, so small gestures make a larger difference than you may think. I complimented someone on her hair the other day and her face just lit up. She went on to explain that she was having such an awful day so that compliment really cheered her up. Ive also come to learn about the importance of remembering small details when building relationships. This can make any conversation a lot more personal and shows you care. I personally love talking to people and having conversations which usually have nothing to do with trying to sell something. I think this makes interactions more authentic and naturally turns people into loyal customers. This is also important in almost any area of life no matter the relationship.
What advice would you give?
Always make sure to have a positive/optimistic attitude and put your best self forward. Even if you are not where you want in your career yet or maybe even a little confused, don't get discouraged! Make connections with everyone you can, you never know who you could end up talking to! Always be up to try new things and don't be afraid to ask questions :)
